Group Announcements THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29TH & THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH - CANCELLEDNext Thursday, October 29th, we will not have ES Robotics. 4th grade is going on a field trip and leaving around 7AM. 16 of our 26 students are 4th graders so we will just take that Thursday off.
We will also not have Robotics on Thursday, November 12th. ![]() COMPETITION BOARDInstead of starting the programming section, we are going to take Tuesday the 20th and possibly Thursday the 22nd and put together the competition game board. This will allow a smoother process of testing our programs when we get to that point.
Great job on the Engineering! The robots look good. We'll be able to test just how well they are put together when we begin programming. If things aren't connected properly, things won't work correctly. INITIAL ENGINEERING WRAP UP2 groups have finished building and the other 2 are close behind them. I think everyone will finish this week. If so, we will begin programming next week! Go over your robot and make sure your engineering job is correct. If it isn't, you know when we start programming. When we introduce the competition, you'll be able to make more changes if you wish.
If you are finished and are confident that your robot is constructed correctly, your group may start building the competition set. BRAIN SURGERY (Attching the NXT)ENGINEERINGNow that we had a day of introduction to Robotics, it's time to get our hands dirty (not literally). In your groups, you will begin construction of your robot. We will rotate around so that everyone gets a chance to build. Remember, go step by step and perform the tasks EXACTLY how the manual states. If you ignore parts of the instructions, your mistakes could be huge so make sure to build with caution.
Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!! GROUPSRemember-the first meeting for ES Robotics is Thursday, October 1st. We will meet at 7:30 in the big Computer Lab. Please enter through the SAC doors and tell them you are with Robotics. Here are the groups:
Group A Group B Group C Group D ELEMENTARY ROBOTICS ROSTERThese are the students who are registered for Robotics. Remember, the first meeting is Thursday, October 1st at 7:30AM. If the front doors to the school are locked, you can enter through SAC. Tell the SAC Teachers you are here for Robotics and they will let you in. Our first meeting will be in the big computer lab.

Mary G. Porter Traditional School is proud to announce the start of the Elementary Lego Robotics Club. This club, aligned with the First Lego League, will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:30 in the Science and Computer Labs. This club is open to boys and girls. Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 1st at 7:30 AM. Our season will run from October 1st to March 25th. In case of inclement weather, late starts, holidays, vacations, etc. we will not have meetings on those particular days. During the course of the program we will do a number of different activities. We will start with building a basic robot. Next we will learn how to program and alter the robot’s movement. Then we will introduce the official challenge and each team will use their robot and research skills to solve the challenge. Finally, we will take what we have learned and compete against other elementary schools in various challenges near the middle and end of the program. Space is limited for this club. Currently, we have 24 spots available (4 teams of 6). Registration is on a first come-first serve basis only so register quickly. The registration fee for this club is $100. If registration is full, you may be placed on a wait list. Once in the program, no refunds will be issued for withdrawal from the program, family relocation, or excessive absences. Those wishing to remain on the wait list will be notified of their place and if/when a spot opens up. Regular attendance is critical to a successful team and program. We understand illness happens, family vacations, etc. If you know you will be absent, please let us know in advance so your particular team can prepare accordingly. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. In the mean time, visit www.pwcs.edu/porter, click on “For Students”, “Student Organizations”, then “Elementary Robotics Club” for program updates. Financial Assistance - Families who feel they are in financial need and cannot afford the cost of this program may submit a letter to the Principal requesting financial assistance. The requests will be reviewed on a case-by case basis by the principal. Mr. Osweiler osweilrm@pwcs.edu Discussion Topics More... Group Files
